The National SIDO Programme

National and International research has identified that physical activity is a missing component in the lives of many people with disability. In 2006, the Dormants Accounts Fund earmarked €2 million nationally for projects to address the imbalance in opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in sport and physical activity. Consequently the Irish Sports Council identified the need to appoint a dedicated SIDO at county level to address the current gaps in the provision of sport and recreation for people with disabilities.
